Being next to the Brightwater Common, which is a beautiful mall.
I made two reservations at Mercure, one for 3 nights and one for 1, needing just because a supplement. The first of 3, was via Booked.net, cost r1, 497.00 (in Rand, local currency), to be settled via credit card. As I did not want to pay the iof (6.37%), I sent an email to the hotel, via Mrs Bonita Heyneke, reservations supervisor, said I could pay in dollars - u $ 175.00 (I have the e-email saved until today). I did the conversion and the value was right, usually by an average of $ 1.00 = r8.20. Well, first thing: I barely made my check in, the clerk, too arrogant, already ordered the payment of $ 220.00. When I asked, she said the hotel was working with r7.44 To the dollar (it was remade into account and $ 210.00). With this difference of $ 35.00 (r280.00), which gives a lot of stuff to do. When I asked againn to Mrs Bonita, she simply replied that it was so, and that he could do nothing, and the local manager, Mr Mohammed Hamel, even appeared. In short: I was clearly stolen and mistreated as a customer. So here is my promise to registered never use any services group Accor, and believe me: I travel extensively throughout Brazil and the world, and will not recommend this group to anyone.
It is near a mall shopping is not a headache
Having to pay extra for breakfast. I have been to other Mercure Hotels where I paid R 760 for bed and breakfast. At Randburg I paid R 830 only for bed and an extra R120 for breakfast. If I will have to recommend this place to somebody else rest assured i will not.
Convenient location. Excellent Price. Friendly Staff. Very comfortable room and bed, if bathroom small. Complimentary in-room Tea & Coffee plus an in-room small fridge. Plenty of hot water. Good Air Con. Everything looked clean and fresh, and attractive. Good housekeeping, though 2 bath towels instead of one per person would be an improvement. One small soap for two people was inadequate and mean, but good shampoo etc. Breakfast looked good though did not use. Garden Terrace looked attractive. Foyer particularly attractive. Good security and plenty of parking. All in all, very pleasing.
Only negatives were mentioned above.
Staff attempting to be friendly and accomodate guests - have to give them credit. Being right next to waterfront - bonus.
A breakfast R120.. Not being able to sleep in room 105 due to aircon or some other noise that keeps humming in your ears.. No notebook in the room to write on with.. some other previous guests "pubic" hair under your pillow..
Clean, comfortable, conveniently located.
With window open there was not enough circulation to prevent room from getting stuffy. With airconditioner on, temperature became comfortable bu the noise made sleep fitful.
The Staff was really friendly and helpful. Room and the hotel in general was clean. Breakfast was good. The Hotel does not serve meals but breakfast. Five minutes walking distance is Waterfront Shopping Centre where you can find a supermarket, pharmacy, beauty salon, some shops and good restaurants. Some of these restaurants offer delivery service to Mercure.
Value for money, comfortable bed and room was clean.
I was sharing with my sister and we hardly had room for our suitcases our room was so small. We were given cards for the wrong rooms initially and let ourselves into a room that was occupied ... could have been embarrassing! Staff not friendly or helpful ... apart from porter.
Non existence of flexible rates. I cut my business meeting short BEFORE checking in and advised the hotel that I was not to sleep over but was still knocked off a full overnight rate!
The rooms are all equipped with a universal electrical socket, which will accept plugs from all over the world. An excellent facility, which other South African hotels would do well to copy.
